3.25.16 From the Desk of the Administrator

Dear Pen Bay Christian School Family,

This week we used our second snow day of the school year! Cancelling school is not an easy decision so I thought I would share how that decision is made. Ideally, it should be done between 5-5:30 AM on the cancellation day. My decision is made easier because the RSU 13 Superintendent’s office is in direct communication with us regarding cancellations and delays.  If there is a Winter Storm Warning for our area, school will almost certainly be cancelled because it is recommended only emergency travel because of hazardous driving conditions.  However, a warning is different from a watch. We live in Maine and over my years as a teacher, I have seen a Sunday night “winter storm warning” turn into a “no storm in sight on Monday morning.” The safety of our students, parents, and staff are my highest priority for any cancellation decision. As a teacher, I did occasionally question cancellation decisions. Now that I am making the decision, I realize what a difficult judgment it is to make. For Monday’s cancellation, I referred to local and national weather web pages throughout all of Sunday. As of 2:45, Monday morning, there was no snow on the ground. The storm warning was still issued. As of 4:30am, it had started to snow, so after referring to the radar and weather forecast again, I began the process of checking for local school cancellations. A little after 5 AM, I made the final decision to cancel school.

People have started asking when our last day of school would be. There are 5 snow days built into our school calendar so at this point we should be getting out 3 days earlier. Please keep in mind that this is all tentative as I have seen school cancelled in April!

This week we celebrate Easter! I hope that you and your family will gather together on Sunday to worship and celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! If you are looking for a place to worship, Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church happily welcomes you to Sunrise Service at 6:15 AM, followed by Easter Breakfast, Sunday School, and Sunday morning worship. He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

In Him and for Him,

Mrs. Wallace
