Our Story

Pen Bay Christian School has a rich history of serving families in Mid-Coast Maine. What began as a small nursery school has grown over the years through the faithfulness of God, the dedication of families and teachers, and the support of Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church.

1976 — A Beginning

Pen Bay Christian School was founded in 1976 as a ministry of Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church. The school began with seven preschool children and was originally called Littlefield Christian Nursery School.

1978 — Growing

By 1978, the school had grown to two preschool sessions with 16 children in each class. As the school continued to grow, the vision for providing Christ-centered education to families in the community continued to expand.

1981 — Kindergarten Begins

In the fall of 1981, the first kindergarten class was formed. Grades 1, 2, and 3 were added in the years that followed, allowing the school to serve more families and provide a growing Christ-centered educational program.

The 1990s — A New Home

As enrollment continued to grow, the need for additional space became evident. In the mid-1990s, Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church voted to construct the Henderson Memorial Wing to provide space for the growing school.

1996 — Pen Bay Christian School

The Henderson Memorial Wing was completed in November 1996. With this new facility came a new chapter in the school’s history, and the school officially became known as Pen Bay Christian School.

Today — Continuing the Mission

PBCS provides Christ-centered education for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Through every season of growth and change, God has remained faithful. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue serving students and families in Mid-Coast Maine.

While we are thankful for our history, we remain focused on the future and on continuing to provide Christ-centered education for the next generation.
